What Is Business Analysis?

Business analysis is the set of tasks and techniques used to work as a liaison among stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization, and to recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals (BABOK Guide).

 

Business Analysis involves:

  • Understanding how an organization functions (i.e. goals, objectives, organizational units purpose)
  • Defining the capabilities an organization requires for them to provide products and services to external stakeholders
  • Understanding current state
  • Defining and validating solutions that meet business needs, goals, or objectives
