Overview

The world of business analysis seems to be constantly changing. Questions like how we can help organizations innovate, if Agile will continue to be a hot methodology and if so, what that means for business analysts, whether requirements management is a thing of the past, how much design work business analysts will do, or what kind of leadership skills are needed to be effective need to be answered. We need to keep current or face being left behind. Where is the industry going? Which trends will last and which will fade? This presentation addresses several hot topics in in the world of business analysis

Specifically, this presentation describes seven trends in the field of business analysis including:

  • The role of business analysts on Agile projects
  • What successful organizations are doing to innovate and how to help them
  • The importance of using leadership skills, rather than relying on authority to get work done
  • The difference between planning and plans
  • What is meant by distributed roles for the business analyst
  • Why the traditional role of the business analyst may not add enough value in the future

This presentation also covers the organizational culture needed to support these trends, why some current trends will fade, and what this means for business analysis.

Presenter Information

Elizabeth Larson, PMP, CBAP, CSM is Co-Principal and CEO of Watermark Learning and has over 30 years of experience in project management and business analysis. Elizabeth’s speaking history includes repeat presentations for national and international conferences on five continents.

Elizabeth has co-authored books on CBAP Certification, Requirements Management, and Influencing topics. She has also co-authored chapters published in three books, as well as numerous articles that appear regularly in BA Times, Project Times, and Modern Analyst. Elizabeth was a lead author on the PMBOK® Guide 4th and 5th editions, as well as the BA Practice Guide, the BABOK® Guide 2.0, and an expert reviewer on the BABOK® Guide 3.0.

Elizabeth enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, theater, and spending time with her 6 grandsons.
