Overview and Learning Objectives

This presentation describes the subtle and not so subtle differences between the PM and the BA approaches to projects.  It explores the differing perspectives, the complementary roles, the overlapping responsibilities, the differing view of scope, the overlapping communication channels, and the joint requirements and management responsibilities.  And finally, we discuss the golden opportunities for the BA and the PM to collaborate to manage project complexity.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discover how combining disciplines leads to success – how the wise BA partners with the PM to build a high-performing team and improve project success.
2. Examine the different and complementary perspectives of the BA and the PM.
3. Determine the accountabilities and responsibilities shared by the BA and the PM.

Presenter Information

Kitty Haas is the leading expert in Strategic Business Analysis and Complex Project Management, a prominent keynote presenter at industry and corporate conferences, author, consultant, and certified facilitator. She is the president of KHass and Associates, Inc., a consulting practice specializing in strategic business practices. Her expertise includes implementing and managing PMOs and BACOEs, managing large complex programs, and leading groundbreaking PM and BA maturity efforts. Kitty served as an IIBA Director from 2008-2016, and currently serves as a consultant to IIBA.

She has written nine books, dozens of influential articles, and given lectures at corporations throughout the world. She is a professor of Strategic PM and BA Practices at Villanova University and a keynote speaker at conferences around the world. Kitty serves on the BA advisory boards for Capella University and the University of California, Irvine. Her ground breaking work in Project Complexity has earned her recognition as a recipient of the PMI’s David I. Cleland Literature Award.
